PARTICIPATION IN THE RENMAD 2025 CONGRESS
Yesterday we participated in a panel of experts at the RENMAD 2025 congress, which brings together more than 60 speakers in Zaragoza on 12 and 13 March to address the challenges and opportunities in the renewable hydrogen industry.
In the panel called: H2iBER Project: Regulation, evaluation and management of water resources in renewable H2 projects, our colleague Juan López de Larrínzar, explained the work carried out in the H2iBER project, in which we developed a tool, driven by Artificial intelligence which facilitates decision-making in the evaluation phase of renewable hydrogen production projects in Aragon in a very intuitive way. The tool focuses on assessing the availability of the water resource according to the needs of the renewable H2 production project, as it is a key factor for the viability of this type of projects, as well as a strategic and shared resource for other uses and sectors.
He also stressed the fundamental role of decision support tools in the planning phase of renewable hydrogen projects in order to mitigate risks as far as possible. To this end, he pointed out the need for quality data that allows for the development of projections that are as accurate as possible, since this type of project requires significant investments in the medium and long term.
As Juan explained, by quality data we mean data that are available in time and form, including both historical series and real-time data, and especially data that are published in standard formats and through interoperable services that facilitate their automation and integration through M2M (Machine to Machine) strategies. Only in this way will we be able to take advantage of the full potential of the most innovative technologies, such as artificial intelligence, to develop useful and scalable tools that optimise the management of a resource as scarce in our country as water and boost strategic sectors such as renewable hydrogen.
The panel concluded by highlighting the need for close collaboration between industry and public administration to face the challenges of the sector with guarantees and ensure the sustainable and efficient development of renewable hydrogen in Spain.
