NEW TECHNOLOGIES IN THE MANAGEMENT OF TRUFFLE PLANTATIONS TO IMPROVE THE ECONOMIC PERFORMANCE OF FARMS.
The aim of this project is to develop new technological procedures based on the monitoring of ecological variables to optimise the productivity of truffle plantations, as well as to improve the marketing of their by-products.
One of the most innovative aspects of the project is that the truffle grower will be able to have a unique device that monitors the most critical environmental variables for the proper functioning of the holm oak, in the areas where it serves as a base for truffle plantations, and obtains key physiological parameters for the functional monitoring of the holm oak (PRI and canopy temperature), displayed simultaneously with the environmental parameters. It will also allow the first use of plant sensing in the optimisation of water use in truffle plantations of holm oak..
The project has a budget of 599,131 euros and will last for three years.
The project will be developed in the following phases:
- Prior evaluation of three truffle plantations in the provinces of Castellón, Guadalajara and Teruel, in order to subsequently develop and implement 3 ecophysiological stations to monitor different parameters of the holm oak-truffle complex.
- Monitoring of the tree canopy by integrating multispectral cameras in a drone and of the evolution of ecophysiological, mycorrhizal and production variables with the collection and analysis of data on a platform.
- Pilot project for agronomic management applied to truffle growing, which will include the valorisation of truffle co-products and the development of a computer system to guarantee their traceability.
